The Association for the Development of Life Skills and the SYNTHESIS Center are pleased to announce the offer of the Comenius (School Education) in-service training course "Social and Emotional Learning: Experience the Power of Education!"

The course is addressed at  teachers, educational guides/counsellors, head teachers, school managers, school psychologists, school counselors, pedagogists, and school workers across Europe. The language of instruction is English.

The course aims at exploring the power of education in creating better learning environments, facilitating social and emotional learning and providing  participants with the theory and practical experience in teaching and learning social and emotional competences.

Participants will also have the opportunity to network with colleagues from other European countries and experience the warmth and hospitality of Cyprus. 

Eligible applicants can receive a grant from their national agency which covers all expenses including tuition, transportation, accommodation, and subsistence. To apply for the grant, applicants need to fill out an application for a Comenius (School Education) Grant from their National Agency or the relevant Lifelong Learning Service in their own country. A list of the National Agencies is available here. A half day work-shop for beginners. The event includes the following sessions:

- History & notions of Social Entrepreneurship 
- Practices of social entrepreneurship with emphasis on those in the Mediterranean basin
- Resources & Funding
- Creating innovative solutions to social and envrironmental problems.

A 16 hour Mentorship programme for immigrants facing difficulties entering the labour market. The programme aims to enable participants to build mentor skills (communication, personal quality, and team building) as well as employability skills. 
Dates: June 4 - 25, 2011. 

1 day programme. The event includes the following sessions:

- History, notions, and practices of social entrepreneurship in Europe and the world.
- Case studies
- Leadership skills for Social Entrepreneurs
- Creating innovative solutions to social and envrironmental problems.

A 3-day event for teachers/trainers/youth leaders on peer education. The course will be offered in Nicosia, Cyprus, between November 10-12, 2010. The course will be facilated by a european team of trainers led by Gorseinon College, UK.
Dates: 10, 11, and 12 November 2010

Connecting Social Innovation 2010 (Cosi10) is a global collaborative event for social innovators and social entrepreneurs  from all sectors and backgrounds that will take place in more than 10 cities around the world in the month of November 2010. In Cyprus, it is taking place at the University of Nicosia.
Dates: November 6 &  7. 

A 15-hour empowering, learning programme in a social learning circle for young people with hearing impairments.

The programme will run throughout the month of September  and is offered in cooperation with the youth and cultural center "Agioi Omologites."
Dates: September - October 2010
